Hi, i hope someone can assist. We have taken the old sink out in the on suite and capped the pipes off until we put the new one in.
In the airing cupboard is the hot water tank, there are 3 pipes with red screw taps. One for the hot water, cold water not sure what the other one is for.
We turned the hot water tap off before and this was ok. When we went to turn is on the tap and thing its connected to turns but nothing happens. You can just continue turning and it will not tighten either way.
We moved into the house about 3 years ago and when we first opened this tap it was very tight and needed a wrench to open it

any help would be appreciated, may thanks

The spindles snapped needs a new valve.

Is it one of these ?

Yes that is the one. Is it an easy job to replace the valve? What would I need to do?

Many thanks for your reply

Yes it is the cold water goes into the top of the tank and the pipe for the hot water runs into the bottom of the tank.

Sorry, yes it is the one for the feed from the header tank that runs into the bottom of cylinder

bung the supply pipe hole in the header tank.
open a hot tap to drain out the excess in the pipework.
place a towel around pipe below valve and undo the compression nuts either side and remove valve.
fit new valve and unbung the header tank.

fit one of these more reliable than them gate valves.
