Hotpoint Aquarius DF61 Dishwasher - Not Washing

Please can anyone help me with a water filling problem with this type of dishwasher?

It won't start the wash cycle?

I've taken the side panel off to see what happens when the dishwasher is switched on:-

1. First it pumps out any old water - fine; then
2. It starts to fill with clean water, and I can see the clean water filling and working its way around the reservoir before leaving the bottom housing and entering the machine, and when full enough, the switch activates and shuts off the water - fine, but then the trouble starts;
3. The machine doesn't start the wash cycle?

Any ideas please?
