Hotpoint built in fridge freezer. Not working.

Hi,
I have a problem with a fridge/freezer? The unit is not getting cold,even if left on for hours. Power to the unit is ok internal lamp working. I have checked the thermostat its contacts are closed.
Symptoms- When turned on a sound similar to running water can be heard inside the fridge and a low pitched humming sound which i think is the compressor unit. The fridge had not been used for a couple of months. Then worked for about two days before developing this fault.

Hi,
Decided to scrap it and buy a new machine. The unit was a 4 year old Hotpoint. Callout fee and gas recharge worked out to be expensive,and the same problem could happen again if the leak was not detected.
