My 20+ year old washer dryer has been stopping mid rinse cycle. It also won't go into the final spin anymore. The drum doesn't turn anymore, not even when using the dryer. The motor makes a noise though. I've removed the top and back cover to have a look. The drive belt is fine and turns the drum when I manually rotate the belt. It's also draining water so I guess the pump is fine. Though I have to mess around turning the dial to different rinse cycles before it finally decides to drain the water. Also, the machine had tripped my fuse box a few times.
I've removed the two carbon brushes. There are burn marks on the white plastic of one of them, and the carbon looks degraded around the edges on one of them and it also falls out of the white casing. The other stays with the white plastic. But the length of carbon left looks long enough to work doesn't it? Also, the plastic casing around the connector clips are burnt. Will replacing the brushes fix everything?
