Four year old machine fails to start any programme, the door goes "locked" but door lock light does not come on. Have cheked water input, all OK. Machine has to wait two minutes before dooor can be opened, as per normial operation. Door lock light flashes when using "start/stop" button to stop programme but does not stay lit.

Thanks for reply - are they relatively easy to replace? Take it I would need to put machine flat and work from underneath? Would reasonable electrical shop or possibly one of the "big boys" sell them?
Thanks again.

Do not tip mc over .motor can be removed from rear lower panel 2 bolts and a plug to remove motor.brushes on the side of motor .any appliance shop sells them or eBay cost about 15.00 .utube bosch motor brushes to see how to fit them.

Thanks for feedback - tried several shops in Falkirk/Stirling area, no one stocks them. Will try ebay etc after taking motor off and getting motor details to hand.

Hi dk,
first off see my reply on 'UK Electrics'.
Second, if you 'Youtube' do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT! watch the videos from 'Homehandymantips.com'! under any circumstances.

This guy is dangerous and totally inept at what he claims are safe methods of doing electrical repairs.
You would be far better getting a book from the library showing you common household appliance repairs.

DK,
have a look at Rocks link but you will probably find that the Hotpoint motor is slightly different. When Rocks link has finished have a look at the video from, Apart4u which comes up at the end.
This one may be more appropriate in your case. However, DO NOT release the clip on the side until you have fitted the brush holder into the motor. From past experience this can cause the brush to actually slide around the commutator instead of sitting against it and a reputable repair shop will tell you to do it this way.
Good luck and lets know how you get on.
PS Found it rather amusing that they show you how to do this task but tell you it should be done by a qualified engineer!
