Hi, I've got a Hotpoint WMA34 which is making a terrible screeching noise throughout the wash cycle. It doesn't make a noise when I rotate the drum manually. Any ideas what may be causing it and how I can fix it?
Any help much appreciated, Jen

couple of possibilities
1. Bra wire has found its way and lodged itself between inner tub and outer drum. Tangles itself in the heater element and scrapes bottom of tub as it rotates May only be apparent on fast rotation of the drum.
2. Motor bearings drying out and screeching.

Hi,

and thanks for your suggestions.

It was the second possibility - isn't it always the expensive one. Ended up getting Hotpoint to fix it for an extortionate fee, but they do guarantee the whole machine for a year now too, and will apparently give me a new one if they can't fix mine during that time. Don't think I could've got a new one for the price, but it must've been pretty close!

Many thanks for getting back so quickly though.

In response to breezer's question:

Have now received the policy from Hotpoint in the post & yes, they do guarantee the whole machine now for a year (including replacement if it can't be fixed). They're expensive, but Hotpoint have provided a great service (their engineer was with us within 4hrs of having called) so I'm relatively happy (although would be happier if it hadn't needed repairing at all!!).

And tockworth, I appreciate people who are generous with their knowledge - it's how I learn. Thank you.
