The door locked light has started flashing on Hotpoint WML520.
The machine will not do anything!

If I turn it off at the wall and leave it 10 seconds then turn it back on the door lock makes a loud screech noise and the door locked light stays lit?

It will then start any programme you select for about 2 seconds before stopping and not doing anything.

After that the door will not open!!!!!!!!!

Is it time for a new machine?
 
When it makes a loud screech noise is it on spin or nothing at all just standby. Check the connections on the pcb door lock wires are loose. Hence it's not locking , a motor fault can also cause this.
 
Replace the door lock. It's controlled by a solinoid.
