Hotpoint wt741 washing m/c is leaking,when filling

My Hotpoint wt714 leaks when filling.As soon as I switch the m/c on,water rushes from inside.It appears to be pouring from just behind the Start button.I have checked the filler hose and the pump hose,and,they are both o.k.I removed the screws from the brackets which hold the m/c top on,and tried to remove the top, to see if I could see where the water was coming from.As I tried to prise the top off,I felt strong resistance,so,I stopped,in case I damaged the top.
I will be grateful if you could suggest where the leak is,how to remove the m/c top,what parts are required for the repair,and how to fit them.

To remove the top, remove screws at the back of the machine that are fixing the top on, then the top should slide back from front to back, sometimes it can be quite stiff, this should release the fixing brackets.
