British households may be given individual carbon audits to encourage them to do more to reduce their own contribution to global warming, Tony Blair has said. The Prime Minister said that the Government was looking at the idea, which he believes could boost the uptake of carbon-reducing measures in households across the country. Mr Blair said he had already made an effort to "set an example" by installing low-energy lightbulbs and turning the thermostats down by one degree at 10 Downing Street. Steps have also been taken to ensure that all his travel since April last year has been carbon-neutral.

It is not 'could' but 'will' That is what the 'home inspector' is really about, not for the 'HIP' .... Carbon audit will lead to carbon tax ...
:D :D

Of course...and also the 'inspections' will also be used to 'personalise' council tax' - after all, if we're all paying a little different, how can we compare & complain - the 'divide and rule' principle again... ;)

What's wrong with making the heaviest users the heaviest payers?

That's the principle of income tax isn't it?

But it won't be 'heaviest user' will it!

Two people in a more valuable house will still pay more than a family in an average house, regardless of income!

The 'audit' will point out energy saving/heavy features, but that doesn't mean that you will use/abuse them - unless of course they want to link the data with your energy bills!!

dont see him driving round in a 1 litre ford Ka tho do u..... and have you seen the price (not to mention the stupid shape) of those energy saving bulbs.

Have you also considered this:

1) Not all luminaires will accommodate low-energy lamps.

2) Low-energy lamps cannot be used with dimmer switches

3) Low-energy lamps can be problematic with 2-way switching circuits

4) Low-energy lamps cannot be used when people have installed ELV lighting systems

5) Legislation means that rectifying 1-4 in order to be able to use low-energy lamps may require you to use an electrician, or pay large sums of money to your LABC in order to DIY.
