Hi there

My mate sold me his old gazebo. It's only 2 years old but I've noticed quite a bit of rust at the bottom of some of the support poles.

I wondered if anyone has any ideas on the best way to treat this?

Use Emery cloth to remove the rust spots then prime and paint with Hammerite (grey/black).

Wire brush all the rust off and use a galvafroid paint before using the hamerite (for colour only). The zinc will hopefully neutralise the remaining microscopic pockets of rust. Try to get some inside the tube if there any holes further up the tube which might allow water in, then seal up the holes

Remove rust, use rust converter, use red oxide primer, then paint. Even after all that, I still don't hold out much hope for you. The moment you bolt them down, you will damage the coating, and rusting starts again.
