Hi

Have moved into a property with an old vaillant boiler which has a green button a red button and a grey knob that has a clockwise arrow on it and can be depressed. There is also 3 red switches along the bottom and the middle one is on and lit.

Boiler has gone out and now i need to relight it, reason for boiler going out was the gas was switched off so it hasnt gone faulty. We were warned these boilers are hard to light which is no help now as it is late at night and cold.

Can someone please give me a basic answer on what to do, i have already been to the Vaillant site and requested a manual but until then i'm stuck. I am asking for a basic answer as i have no idea what to do with this and its colddddddddddd , so please be patient with me, any help is very much appreciated!

Cheers

Can't remember for sure, but...
Press green button and hold it in.
Click away at the the ignition button - which is on the right or maybe even underneath, I can't remember, until the pilot lights. Hold the green button in for another 10 seconds or so and it should stay on.
If it goes out press the red? button and wait half a minute before retrying, and hold green button in for longer before releasing.

Ignition button will be springy, going in a fair way until it clunks , when it makes a spark

Have not worked on one of those for over a year, but if Chris's tip does not work, keep the grey button pushed in and spark away. When you see the flame, and it is usually a big one, hold the button for 30 seconds.
Find yourself a service and installation manual for this particular model for when you need a plumber to fix it. I do not think more than 1 in 20 plumbers could do a lot of work on this one without a manual.
If you are lucky, Tony will appear who no doubt knows by heart which buttons to press on this boiler, in what order and how long.
