I've removed a leaky tap valve from a bathroom tap. However it has a stainless steel collar on the valve see pic. How do I take this off with damaging. Or can I dismantle the valve and repair. The leak is coming from the from part.
Is this the one you were trying to remove in your earlier post?
It doesn't seem to be visible when the tap is assembled so you may get away without having it at all. If you want to have a go at removing it, try wrapping a few turns of insulating tape round it and then hold with a pair of pump pliers while using a spanner on the valve.
yes its the one in my previous post. It was an absolute bugger to get off. Took the best part of the day. Soaking, levering, etc.
I've just measured and ordered a new one.
I think I'll get away without the collar, in the mean time I'll try your suggestion. Thanks.
Do you have any deep reach sockets? One of them or a suitable piece of tubing could be used to tap it off. How about using an adjustable spanner, set to the correct width and tapped gently to remove the collar?
