How do you decide what size finishing trowel to go for?

I'm looking at a marshall town, permashape trowel and would like to know the what makes you decide upon a certain size.

if physical build is anything to go by and plays an importance, i'm 5'11 with slight build...

thanks..

Wouldn't worry about build etc - would suggest it depends on your experience.

If you're new to it - 11" x 5" is a good start
Can go above that if you've done more.

I started with 11"x5" and on bigger areas get better results with a trowel 14" long.
Pros go bigger than that.

In terms of make -
I've gone with marshaltown, but others on would rate ragni, tyzack etc also.

Stainless steel is highly advisable too.

id say 13" &14" is most common sizes even in collage there the main size trowel to start and finish with.
But i do play on a lot to do with how good you are and how much your putting on.
iv got a 14 16 18 ss marshalltown
and 14" 16" and 20" and 28" plazzie
along with 600 1200 and 1800 speedskim
different sizes sponge floats
24" renifina spat
there's so much kit out there you'll start to find what works best for you and only you.
if your just kicking off plastering then stick to a 13"SS marshalltown and squerty bottle.
only time will tell if you really like plastering.

as long as your work is flat smooth and ready to paint who cares how you start and finish your work
if im heading off to London ill only carry my hawk "N" trowel with some hand tools in bag thats it job done
