How do you find a quality roofer?

Not easy, but check traders have a landline number and a proper business address,

The landline thing just doesn't work anymore, numbers are diverted to/from mobiles in the same way a geographic number can be established anywhere. Besides, if you dial your prospective builder during the day you wouldn't get them at home, perhaps some admin staff. Do you want to talk to admin staff? You want to speak to the craftsman!

Having admin staff, would suggest the the company having some substance behind them. A landline number can be searched for and a company address found.

It might suggest their prices could be higher

It's not foolproof, but we've recently founds a roofer by asking for recommendations on our very local facebook group - we found one or two traders were recommended by a number of people. We could have then pm'd the people recommending those roofers to ask them more about their experience of them, but life is too short!
The roofer has photographed (not visible from the ground) the problems, and given a detailed quote for how he's going to address those problems.
