I have just bought a house with this boiler fitted, no instructions for boiler and gas turned off. I would be grateful if anyone can advise please.

Go to Chaffoteaux website and download instructions for similar boilers (any Corvec, etc.). They all have similar controls, basically the top gas control knob. Start this in the 12 o'clock position, turn anti-clockwise to ignite pilot. Allow pilot to establish a few seconds and then turn further anti-clockwise to 3 o'clock position for normal operation.

My memory says its a single knob !!! And the lighting instructions are on on the front of the boiler until its cleaned off!

It also has a thermal fuse which can blow.

These are very old and should have been replaced ages ago!

Tony you are showing your age! but good memory.

OP it has a single knob which you need to start at 12 o clock position. Turn to 10 o clock then light pilot ....with a match by the way.
Make sure the pilot is large enough to play on the tip of the T/C behind it. If not its very easy to clean out.
When its been there for 15-20 secs then turn anticlockwise to 3 o clock position then turn on the system.

If you are very lucky the wax capsule wont be stuck the diapragm wont be knacked and the fusible link t/c interuptor Tony mentioned will still be O.K.
I still have a wax capsule for one in the van. You can have it for a grand

I am only remembering it from the last one I went to about 6 months ago! Age is not relevant apart from senile dimentia.

That one had a pizo spark generator!

Your joking it must have been the deluxe model. :D

Mind you its about 7 years since I worked on one so maybe its me with dementia

It has a spark button (must be the deluxe version!) which is sparking when I look through the window but not lighting the pilot light, would you say it is the thermal fuse that needs replacing - where is it located please?

Thanks

They all spark when you turn the gas knob. If it's not igniting, try a lighted taper in case the spark isn't strong enough. If the pilot still doesn't light the most likely cause is a blocked pilot light. Cleaning that isn't really a DIY job.

Had a corgi plumber round today, who got the pilot light working (blocked) and the boiler firing up. The main flame would ignite and then die down, when he tapped with the base of a screwdriver (lower part of the boiler) the the boiler flame fired up again and then died down. He had not ever worked/seen this boiler and is suggesting that I replace the boiler. My dilemma is that at the moment money is tight having just bought this house. Is it the diaphram/wax capule that needs replacing? or has the boiler had it? are parts still available if this boilker is repairable Your views are much appreciated

I've come across two of these in my travels. One I condemned because it was leaking gas and I was told you couldn't get parts and the second one I replaced with a modern boiler cos the pilot would go out evry couple of days despite my best cleaning efforts. Replace asap!

This is an instant water heater packaged to act as a CH boiler!

It does not require any electricity to operate!

Apart from the multifunction gas valve there is not much in them! Even that was still available a few years ago.
