How do you test the resistance on a pump ?

do you mean electrical restance? of the coil.

if so, you turn the power off, disconnect the live and neutral wires and take a restace reading across the live and neutral on the pump using a suitable electric meter.

Does it tell you what it should be on the data badge

more than likely no it wont. cant remember off hand what a pump gives, maybe around 160ohms, thats a guess, sure someone will corect me. (plus different pumps will have different readings, it will be a general reading you should expect ie not a few ohms indicating shorts circuit and not Kohms or Mohms indicating a fault)

I have just received a note from Caradon with resistance values for an Ideal Isar 30100 boiler:

Fan: 110-130 Ohms
Pump: 220 Ohms
Diverter: 200 Ohms
Gas valve: 4.2 K Ohms

Hope that helps
