I think there's a rule about how far you have to come off an unvented pressurised cylinder with copper pipe - thunk it's 3m? Is this for the hot water take off or the flow & return though?

I would do it in copper. Nothing more unsightly then a bunch of floppy pipes and knobbly fittings.

never heard of this, as far as I know you can connect in plastic straight off the cylinder.

well it won't be going in the living rm, I just want to do what's correct. Using plastic is much more preferable as need to bend and negotiate slightly where the pipe comes thru an existing hole in the wall.... plus I don't have any copper avail at mo. I'm replumbing as much as the house as poss, doing away with copper where I can.

Am I getting confused with a boiler? Or maybe the part which connects to the expansion vessel, I know that had to be copper?

Yikes, don't tell me wife that! Plenty for em to feast on under our floorboards first!
