Is there any rules or recommendations as to how many down lights you can fit. The room is a kitchen 4.6m x 3m and the lights I was thinking of buying are 12 x 50w gu10 tilting that adds up to 600w of lighting power plus there will be under cabinet lighting, is that too much for the size of room!!.

I have ten in a living room of similar size, thankfully they're on a three gang switch so I can use them as the mood suites. When all on it's like bloody Old Trafford  .

I'd will be going for six in our kitchen (similar size) + underlights.

I would say 6 x 50w in a kitchen of that size would be fine. That's still 300w! Does you kitchen have two strip lights at present? If so then 300w would be plenty if spaced out well.

At the moment in the middle of kitchen extension /refit and still have a single light fitting with 4 x 40w reflector bulbs which is no where near enough, whats the ideal spacing for 50w downlights, might be best to work it out that way.
