How much would I need to offer to attract a good general builder?

Builders seem to like Vectras

Pongoman, this question has been answered on your other thread, hence the ironic replies.
Asking the same question in different formats doesn't change the answer.
You will not find an experienced builder to do your dirty work of project management for £20k/year.
Not even £30k or £40k.
You might get someone starting at £50k plus expenses, plus company car, but personally I don't know if I would accept.
Most good builders earn a good crust and when they retire they have a bit of money to live comfortably, unless they're gamblers or alcoholics, in which case, would you trust them to work for you?
No 2 ways about it.: you either pay a reasonable salary or you will get a labourer.

That can't be true for all situations otherwise you wouldn't see foreman jobs advertised regularly for between £30k and £50k
I also see bricklayers jobs advertised at £120/day.
That only attracts bodgers with no work of their own.
Pay peanuts and get monkeys someone used to say...
