How Much?

7 years warranty does seem a little long but who would pay that? You could change it twice and still be in pocket. Is there some thing missed out?

I remember writing the spec for some work we had done which included charges should the system fail to compensate for down time costs. It was written so we would not get substandard equipment fitted.

Wonder if there was more than meets the eye.

As you say, none of it makes much sense. I've not even clear as to what the '3 years extended service' is - you've obviously assumed that it follows on from the 4-year warranty, but I'm not sure. Whatever, to pay £875 for something which costs £346 is, as you say, just plain daft - particulary for an item which I suspect is very likley to last for at least 4, probably 7, years!

Kind Regards, John

Hi eric, it wasn't 7 years warranty, but 4. 3 years was extended warranty on HFSK, whatever that is.

This was shown to me by a lady in 2005 who thought she may have paid too much.

In fact, the mains powered gas detector turned out to be:

£30 worth?

With a 4 year warranty (would they ever return?), she paid £640 for it.

As a result of the electrical "test" mentioned, she also had a replacement board done which from memory was around the 1200 mark. The MEB's were not up to scratch, blanks were missing, the cert looked like it had been filled out by a 2 year old and I later found out that her relatives who contacted Trading Standards with a complaint got nowhere with it.

Doubtless they're still doing it today.

Indeed. B*stard.

I honestly don't know how companies like that can do that to people, especially the elderly, vulnerable and poor (this lady was all three).

Nowadays they probably feel that they are just following the example set by the Govt, and its contractors such as Atos and Serco.
