Gripper rods cost me a fiver a bag of 10, underlay I get online from (cannot remember where) somewhere that sold it far less than CR etc.
I have a knee/kicker and a bolster chisel.

Nothing is hard when you know how.bit expensive learning from mistakes sometimes though..in above case,,,such as cutting carpet short

Laying simple carpet is not hard with a knee kicker. If you need to have a join or odd shape, then as said, best not to learn from an expensive mistake.
