Found these in a old house we are refurbing.


Kitchen cooker point


Junction box in the loft, this is the feed to the upstairs lighting curcuit. fed from a junction box under the floor boards downstairs via the black cable at the top.


The rest of the wiring is as bad, all conected to a 5 year old RCD's mk CU!!

That black cable looks like VIR.

i think it is yes, rubber?

its all over the place, crumbles away in your hand.

im working with the electrician to get the issues resolved.

Yup - Vulcanised India Rubber.

Seriously past it's Use By date.

That's what it does. Don't touch it except to remove it.

There will be only one suitable resolution.

No point asking if there's an EIC for it.
 

I found this in my house, which had been wired in lead and rubber in the past, I thought ... liars!
