Imports/exports are more complicated, take longer and impact prices. But you think they don't affect you, so stuff everyone else.

Not noticed myself. It might have affected me without realising. Therefore it doesn't make me worry over it and I simply carry on with life.

There is a lot to get your head around. I don't pretend to understand it all either.

Trump has had a gut feeling about tariffs since the 1980s. He honestly believes that the rest of the world is taking advantage of the USA, and that is why the USA has a huge trade deficit. It is a very simplistic view of how economies work. A tiny number of respected economists agree with him. The great majority think it is nonsense. But he is now surrounded by people who just tell him what he wants to hear. So, his team came up with a formula, basically to please Trump, where they calculated the extent to which other countries are ripping off the USA through their own tariffs. This formula was quickly shown to be nonsense. But these are the calculations which Trump presented to the world on Wednesday, and which he seems to believe are true.

Trump wasn't actually a successful businessman. He bankrupted six companies and brought himself to the edge of personal bankruptcy. A
combination of things saved him. American banks would no longer work with him. Somehow he managed to get a lifeline from Deutsche Bank. But the most important thing was that he managed to get a gig playing a successful businessman on The Apprentice. Pretty much all his success since that time has come as a result of playing a reality TV version of a brilliant businessman. And he has been phenomenally good at making people believe in this fictional version of himself.

So the question is, should we trust the gut feeling of a failed businessman. Or should we trust the overwhelming majority of experts who say that what he is doing is nonsense. These are massive issues. Trump is shaking up a global trade system which hasn't really changed for eighty years. My personal view is that there is only a small chance that he is correct.

Fine. I've said before that a more honest view on Brexit would be to say "I don't care if Brexit has made things a bit worse because I'm happy to pay the price".

To say "I haven't been personally affected so it is all good", is just silly.

But if I havent noticed the differences then why would I worry? If I bought a car that you didn't like and was more expensive thann yours, would that worry you too?
