Hi

My Baxi 80e has a timer and thermostatic rad valves but no room stat. The engineer who installed it said it would be fine, but it's not, I want to add a room stat.

I have picked one up, T105 programmable stat, it says its the same as wiring a normal stat. it needs a live, neutral and output.

I've sussed out the closed loop 1 and 2 on my boiler for live and neutral, does it matter which way they are connected? I can't work out where to get the output from though.

Normally I would use trial and error, but I don't want to cause any damage, especially as my boiler is very busy at the moment

Any advice greatly appreciated! If you are going to say get a pro, don't bother replying. I'm comfortable with doing this task as I'm a computer engineer and used to wiring(famous last words!)

Thanks

Darryl

Can you identify your boiler please? 80E is a bit vague. What is the GC number? It will be 41-xxx-xx and found on the data plate

What make is the T105 programmable stat?

wow! v fast response! thanks!

boiler gc no 4707506

stat is made by Towerstat manual at:
http://www.heatingcontrolsonline.co.uk/instructions/Towerstat RF.pdf

since posting I've found a wiring diagram. from my understanding of it, i tried connecting neutral on the terminal block with the mains neutral, then removed the loop on the block, on 1(2nd up from the bottom left of the block) i connected live and on 2(bottom left) connected the stats output.

did it work, did it ****! tested for continuity no problem from the screws on the stat and to both side of the block the wires are connected

the receiver has an on off switch, it is on! there should be a red led indicating power but t's not illuminated and the tx wont do owt! grrrrrrrrrr. hammer time do you think!?

1 AND 2 on boiler are not live and neutral they are
I is live out to room stat and
2 is live back from room stat.

Try connecting the Live terminal of the stat to the L terminal of the boiler
Stat Output connects to boiler 2
Stat Neutral to boiler N

If this doesn't work, connect the Live and neutral wires of the stat to a length of cable with a 3 pin plug the other end and plug in to the mains. If that does not turn the light on, the receiver is faulty. this procedure is also useful in deciding the location of the receiver - provided you have a long enough lead!

If the boiler has a built in timer, this must be set to continuous.

Thanks for the info, you learn something every day on this forum. :)

If you mean just a receiver, you will have to get the same model or it will not work with your Tower control unit.

If you mean a complete programmable thermostat, then go for the Honeywell CM927.

PS
If you bought the Towerstat within the last year it will be under guarantee; take it back to the seller for replacement.
