How can I fix a Citreon Xantia when the heater is blowing, but no hot air coming out. T reg (1998) engind size 2000, mileage approx 60,000

There are two possible problems.
Firstly check if the matrix is getting hot water. There are two hoses going to the bulkhead behind the engine right in the middle. One should be hot and the other will be a wee bit cooler.
If they are cold then the fault is on the engine , probably the thermostat jammed open.
Now if both are hot then the cable/rod that contols the cold/hot air mix for the blower motor could be jammed at cold only. May require a part removal of the dashboard to fix.
This should hopefully narrow down your search for the answer you need.

My Xantia has just started with this problem.
It's intermittent though. If I start the car, it will blow warm, then turn cold after 10-15 mins. Very frustrating as I've sorted a couple of other problems out, then this

Both my heater hoses are cold. The thermostat is working. Eng temp steady @ 80.
Suspect an airlock ! Any ideas on how to clear it I'm freezing.

With the radiator cap off give the top and bottom radiator hoses a gentle squeeze. Let the engine run and make sure the gauge gets to the correct temp and that the heater blows nice and warm. The coolant may need topping up - keep and eye on its level for a few days.

expansion tank cap off, and keep the reservoir filed to the brim. When the thermostat opens, water will gush out of expansion tank. Turn off engine, top up water if needed, replace cap, job done
