Have just had the pump replaced on my CH system after the Potterton profile 50e boiler failed to stay in. The boiler was drained down for the install and since we have started back we get strong gurgling sounds in the boiler and a noise which can only be described as 'wooshing' through the pump. I assume this is air, Ive tried radiator bleed with little success and all taps in the house are mixer so I can't do the cold mains into hot tap trick.......any suggestions?

cold mains into hot tap wouldn't work anyway - sounds like you have air in your primary circuit, which is not the same as HW. are there no bleed caps on any of the pipes? no automatic air vent?

Yep there are at least two T jointed air bleed pipes. So i guess i need to go at those. Questions pump running or not? and do i need specialist tool to open these vents?

Also I guess i neeed to be careful of scaldig water.

Thanks for the help ive been quoted 270 quid to sort the problem

Cheers Kev - I'll give it a try.

Kevin, also in hot water only mode. When the water reaches temp and the boiler stops, my plumber says that the pump continues to run for a few minutes to make sure any hot water in the boiler returns to the cylinder. He says that because we dont have a bypass direct to the cylinder that the pump is running against two closed valves - is this true? He says 270 quid to replace two valves and actuators and install this bypass pipework in airing cupboard.

Thanks for your time and help - appreciated !!!

1 don't call me KEVIN unless it's a sunday (that's DP's privelige)

cant see why you need to replace the valves
you just need the bypass ;)
