Get some qualifications - "5 day wonder" course - about £750 - ish.
Get a meter - £500 -ish
Join a scheme - £500 -ish
Get public liability insurance -
Do a job or two
Pass the practical assessment
A heating engineer/kitchen installer, that I now do electrical work for, did the 5 day course.
I couldn't fault his installation techniques except he had no understanding of testing or interpretation of test results he would have failed any on site assessment.
There are many qualified `inspectors` who suffer from the same problem. I recently had a chap from the council checking my work who insisted that the plastic heating pipes had to be bonded because they had a small bit of copper at the end. Same chap forgot to check that the cpc was included in the supplementary bonding. I know who installed the kitchen and doubt very much that the wiring in there is up to spec so I refused to self cert the work that I did.
