how to get rid of geranium.

what is the best way to get rid of geranium type weeds? the area has been untended for over a year and the 'beds' are full of the stuff and its roots/ rhizhomes. Its pretty hard to dig/rake out dut to its network? Does it take weed killer well?

Any tips on getting rid of it.
