how to hear sound out of surround sound instead of tv

Hi i have a surround sound system that i wish to hook up to the flat panel tv so i always use the surround sound for the sound is this possible and how can i do this

I would of thought you could. What connections are on the back of your tv?
I think you need to have a digital optical output connection on the back of your tv..

Hi yes there is a optical out were do i need to connect to as my av reciever has 3 optical inputs and 1 out

Connect from the optical out on your tv to the optical in on your receiver.. You should be able to get a digital optical cable cheap enough from somewhere like Amazon etc.
