how to make a brickwork clean?

I tried to build a brick wall myself, everything was going alright until the final step (clean-up).
I can not do clean-up as the mortar is still wet, but I either cannot do it as the mortar is dry. Very messy and frustrating job !
Can anyone tell me how to clean up the brick wall after it has been built ? Pleae help

You need some brick acid (sealoclean or similar) and a scrubing brush.
