How to open I/Standard Cistern?

A friend has a Space Ideal Standard close coupled pan and we are unable to take off the cistern lid. The push button arrangement doesnt seem to unscrew like others I have seen. Is there something we are missing here?

Push down 1 of buttons then carefully flick 2nd button out with a flat head screwdriver, then remove 2nd button (same method )
should then see plastic screw and will be self explanitary
