how to prevent a tube of silicon sealent from hardening

Easiest thing is to unscrew the old nozzle and throw it away and they screw another new one on. It will only be hard in the old nozzle. Every time you buy a tube of caulk or silicon you get a new nozzle but don't always use them so you have spares.

I tend to just block up the nozzle and as mentioned keep a spare. This question was asked in another thread and I posted a picture of a tube of silicon that had gone off in an unopened tube , something I have come across several times .

I just let it go off in the nozzle and poke it out with a screwdriver next time it is used, never had an issue.

20 for £3, at 15p a go I just bin the nozzle when I come to use the tube next and replace

I love reading about different solutions in different parts of the world. Here in Israel, the climate is so hot and dry, all those other solutions only resulted in wasted materials.

The soft modeling clay is what a school child might use or play with and with just a very small amount taken from a corner, I am able to get repeated use without having to wrestle with the tube. As a woman, not having to use physical force is also a plus.
