how to protect windows from paint drops

im painting my mothers house and remember that the last time i undertook this project i spent hours scraping paint from her windows, i was thinking of covering them with newspaper and masking tape this time.
is there an easier way?

i had a look at masking guns but they seemed a bit price at 60quid

masking tape & newspaper is very easy to do, what is so hard about that?
