I've a bannister I may need to remove to get a sofa in.

Having a look at it and it seems pretty permanent.
Am I right in thinking I would need to dig out the glue/filler from the underside of the bannister and then lift the bannister off? Seems quite destructive..

I thought I might be able to rotate off the big circular part on the wall and unscrew something from the wall, but rotating does nothing so can't get to the the attachment point on the wall

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I've tried, but the cap does not unscrew (it rotates but its not threaded to anything) It also can't pop off as the metal piping is a thicker diameter than the cap.
