Can someone tell me how I remove the plug hole section of this twist pop up waste please (see photo)? The mechanism has gone so need to replace it all, am comfortable with it apart from the plug hole, in other examples I’ve seen a screw or Allen key used but this is just round in the middle. There are slots either side of the middle but to far apart for a slotted screwdriver. Am I going to have to hammer it round?

I made up a tool for them, a thick bladed scraper, ground down to fit. Can also use a large plain screwdriver and place it into one slot then twist. They shouldn't be really tight and it should move. The other option is a pair of grips.
