How to switch off my boiler

I have an older boiler, a Potterton suprema x100. How would I turn it off completely in future if it refused to switch off? Not just turning the thermostat down, but turning the boiler off completely until I could get an engineer to come out to repair it?

What happened was I hadn't used the central heating for a while and when I tried to put the boiler on manually, the heating didn't come on. (I always switch the boiler on manually as I only have hot water twice a week to save money. ) The engineer came out and fitted a new valve. I put the central heating on on Monday and it switched off after an hour, which was normal. But when I put it on on Wednesday, the boiler wouldn't switch off. I phoned the engineer and he said to turn the thermostat right down. But it only goes to 10 and not to zero, so I was worried that the heating might come on automatically if the temp. dropped below 10. So I would like to know how I could turn the boiler off completely if something like this happens again, so that I don't run up massive energy bills. before the engineer cam call, or if I was going away for a week.

Post some photos, of the setup - the boiler, around the boiler, and any controls.
