Hi,

It was hammering down with rain the other day, and I was sat in my lounge when I could here a funny noise. I put my ear to the gas fire that currently sits in front of the chimney breast (No idea what's behind it, only moved in a week ago) and I could here the rain, or it sounded like the rain, hitting something almost metallic.

It wasn't a rhythmic dripping sound, but it sounded like the rain noise was being funnelled down the chimney.

I've never lived in a house with a chimney before, is this noise normal? What could be making the metallic sound up there, could the rain just be hitting the pots and reverberating down? Does anyone else have this and is it something wrong? Does it mean something needs covering?

you will probably have a metal flue liner.
