I need a solution for these 2 problems

I am going to be tiling this will in a bathroom, but have a couple of issues first.

There is this crack

and this gaping hole, suggestions greatly appreciated for both.

the hole wants bricking up and are you plastering the wall before you tile ?

The hole can be bricked up with no problem, but the crack could be due to a more serious fault........is this crack on the external wall too?

Hmm i will have to have a look at the old pictures prior to re-rendering, i don't think it is on the external wall as well, but it could be.

I will be sand/cementing it when i work out what the heck that means, and wether or not i am capable of getting a flat enough finish for big tiles. I would suggest not.

So what sort if mix should i be using to replace the bricks???
