if you cant get the valve to seal attach one of these and leave it on, they come in straight versions too, or pack a car tyre dust cap with a little PTFE and tighten on.

The bloke in the garage which fitted the valve did say the one they removed looked ok.

I have a feeling it's letting the air into the water side of the system as when the boiler powers up it sounds like there is a load of trapped air.

Not going to try repairing it anymore, will have to bite the bullet and buy a new one.
