WHich model have you got - there's a zillion

Does it have a clonker you push to make a spark?
If so do you get a pilot, which goes out?

Be warned - BG are inclined to suck in through their teeth and tell you the case seals are obsolete so you need a new boiler. Others of us just use general purpose seals and test they work ok ...

Not sure of model, sorry but it ignites automatically, we dont have to push any buttons

are you sure the elan lights automatically ie electronic ignition, or do you mean it usually always lights when you turn the clock on, because the pilot is on, i thought these boilers were old and had pilots, i remember fitting one about 20 years ago for my mum, she doesn't live in the house anymore but it still working, i serviced it for the new owner last year.

Some of the elan2 were electronic the NF range for example I think

A GC number would help to confirm

Have you tried the overheat reset button - li'll & terracottoa coloured, just to the right...

Yes i have and that is fine, it does not need resetting, fans working, and definately no pilot light on, that gets ignited when the boiler needed and that is what not happening

yes it does...not always burning.....only lights when the boiler called for, fans are working, i can hear the ignitor trying to light the pilot light but the boiler not firing up

The GC number is on the data plate, look in anything that moves on the bottom of the boiler, slide the glass front up.

Gas solenoid or pcb are favorite at the moment. it could be dirty pilot and even a broken ignition lead.
