I think this might be a diverter valve problem.

The boiler is showing the 't' message a lot, and the central heating is running at times when the controller is set to off.

I thought 't' was a purely internal heating process, but the CH outlet (and radiators) are getting hot.

The diverter valve head (that's the stepper motor thingy, right?) is winding in and out smoothly (but I don't know if it's doing what it should when it should)

With the head off, the spindle on the valve is moving smoothly in and out without stiction, though needs a decent push.

Is checking / replacing the valve something I can do, as a muggle?

Thanks for any advice.
