Hello
Can any on advise us as the availability of spare parts for this boiler ? It keeps cutting out , We have had the thermocouple replaced . It worked OK for a week , but now is cutting out again /or won't light . Loathe to have to get a new boiler as advised by heating engineer -this boiler has been super reliable, and efficient , but we know it is ancient .

When you say "cutting out" do you mean the pilot light goes out?

This is a very simple system which any competent engineer should be able to sort out easily. Your boiler is about the most simple and reliable style ever made. The only problem is that they are very inefficient compared with the latest condensing boilers. You could save about 30% of the gas with a new one.

Possibly you have had a very young engineer lacking in experience of old boilers?

We dont give DIY advice on gas/combustion aspects but it seems that you are not expecting to DIY anhyway.

In this instance you ideally need an older ex British Gas engineer!

I find it difficult to accept that a Gas fitter (Let's face it, most are not "Engineers" ) who can understand a complex modern boiler, can not grasp the operation of a simple older one.
As for saving money...
It is a long payback even without the breakdown costs added. And the fact that the new boiler will most probably be ready for replacement at the end of it.
