Brother has a very old boiler with a rusting case - feels it's time to change it but being unemployed [issues], he's on less than a budget!

Currently has an Ideal Standard - Concorde WRS 40 balanced flue gas boiler.

Preferably looking for something which is just a swap-out on the same frame / plumbing connections. Are there 'upgrades' suitable for simple swap-out to keep his labor cost to a minimum?

If it's safe and working, wait until he's working. They're extremely reliable boilers. Otherwise look into a grant, which maybe available for those on certain benefits and using less efficient boilers.

There won't be anything on the same frame as the Concord. The flue will be different, and pipe connections will need altering in all likelihood. He may also need to update some controls as well.

Thanks for your reply - safety may be an issue - there is a rusty patch on the front of the case - he's concerned it may be rusting through - if it loses this integrity, is that an issue? Or does the case not need to be air 'tight' as such? 1 helpful sole suggested gluing a patch over the rusting area to keep the 'seal' as such - similarly to await future employment to have more funds to change it.

Job's not forthcoming - has issues [panic attacks, lack of confidence, perfectionist. Tried a production line job and they don't work to his high standard so paniced..... ] and so they've popped him on ESA for a while - but apparently that's not enough for a grant [ has loft and wall insulation - no double glazing and a clapped-out boiler ].

Would love to meet this wealthy relative!!
