I have removed an old shower tray and am left with the old waste pipe and a trap made from a U tube and two right angles to which I want to connect my new shower drain.

The trap has the name McAlpine and the pipe appears to be around 40mm O/D. I have been into B&Q and the man there reckons it is 40mm push fit. However when I got home I found that the pipe is just too large to go into the U tube. I can just see a joint in the skirting where the pipe seems like it is a glued type.

Is this something I can get from B&Q or will I have to find a McAlpine stockist.

The drain that I got with the tray has a type of adaptor.

Push fit pipe and solvent weld pipe can be different sizes. A compression type will fit them all.
Pro's generally avoid push fit partly for that reason.
