Hi,

Looking to turn this single doorway into a double doorway and mixed messages from builders with regards to whether or not they'll need calcs for steel. I'm unsure if it's load bearing, although think the joists may run that way so planning on treating as it is a load bearing wall.

Any advice on types of lintel and if I would need calcs?

Assuming it's load-bearing, just a simple Catnic box section beam, or a 127 x 76 steel 'I' beam would do.
You do need to get a Building Regs approval for it but only a dunce Building Inspector would ask for calculations for a beam over such a short span.

65mm concrete lintel. Or a standard metal lintel. No calcs required.

Edit, if the builders are not sure, then you don't really want them anywhere near your house.
