We have a few open rolls of paper that we'd like to use to paste a single wall.

Without the packaging, is there any way to identify whether the paper is "paste the wall", or "paste the paper"?

I always paste the paper, pasting the wall infuriates me, and I feel is very messy .

Just because it says paste the wall it doesn't mean you have to. I think paste the wall papers generally tend to be thinner

Yeah always paste the wall. To tell what you have, dampen a section, leave for a few minutes and then see if it feels sticky.
