My boiler will not fire up from the programmer when set to timed, but if I press the advance button on the programmer it starts the ignition sequence and the electrodes spark but the gas does not light. yet if I immediately press advance again the sequence restarts and is always successful.

So the system works but wont start from program, only from manual.

The programmer has been replaced with a Drayton Lifestyle 522 which is a straightforward swap from the old unit and the old motorised valve has been replaced again with its new equivalent.

Is the ignition spark too weak?

Is there not enough gas in the chamber for the first ignition attempt?

The boiler does not know where the call for heat comes from!

I suspect the boiler just starts on the seccond attempt!

You have not told us the make an dmodel of the boiler.

However, as the cause of the problem will be combustion related its unlikely I am going to be able to tell you exactly what the problem may be as that should be dealt with by a competent CORGI.

When did you last have this boiler serviced?

Tony

Thanks for your response.

When I advance it is from the heat or the hot water advance buttons on the programmer.

The boiler which is Vokera Mynute 14/48 SE always ignites on the second attempt.

Last service about 7 months ago when a new safety valve was fitted.

thanks Dave.

Its difficult for me to guess what the problem is without being in front of the boiler.

When it was serviced was it a proper service with the boiler opened up ???

I would suggest you call Danny of Rannoch Services. He specialises in Vokera and gives advice here.
