Please can someone give me some good advice! I have a converted maisonette, the old type put together poorly. The cupborad under the stairs shares the same air as the man living up stairs, gas pipes, electric etc. However, hes lovely but a heavy cannibis smoker and the smell passes through the cupborad and into my flat downstairs. I cant afford a professional, so I need to line the cupboard myself. Please can some advise me on what materials and where to start??? :D

This isn't something I know much about, but I would be concerned about fire safety.

If the dwellings a separate then the construction (or conversion) should make them such that fire/smoke couldn't easily/quickly spread from one to the other.

When was the conversion, and who did it? And have you seen any kind of building control completion certificate for it?

what do you mean?
What I mean is that calling the police won't solve the more pressing problem of fire and building safety.

i was only suggesting that if you address the problem at source... like remove the problem of pot smoking then cupboard composition is not an issue!
Well, how can I put this?

You're wrong.

where to start???

look where the pipes and cables go through, you might be able to seal around them with expanding fume.
