Put many immersions in in the past, but this one I've been involved with hasn't got, what I'd call a flat top to the boss. Instead it's curved with a chamfer.

As I tighten it up, the washer/seal/gasket call it what you will, spreads outwards and splits.

I've gone through three now, and tried Boss white with hemp, but still no luck, it leaks every time.

Is there a secret?

Did you just wrap the hemp round ? It might work with a thick grommet made up -

Might it be designed for use with an o-ring seal?
Otherwise, as said, carefully file it flatter, boss white on the threaded part, and not so tight withthe spanner!

Looks as though replacing it might not be a bad idea though. Try Gordons suggestion first though.
