Afternoon all

I want to install a timeswitch in the immersion heater circuit, I have seen these timeswitches in screwfix, B&Q etc however the rating is 13 amps. The immersion heater rating is 3kw but would a timeswitch of this rating be ok since the circuit s protected by a 16 amp MCB (2.5mm supply cable, 2.5mm heat resistant flex to immersion)?

Regards

Remember you should have a 13amp fuse in the Fuse-connection unit supplying the timer/3kW immersion, so it will be protected ok.

More often than not, immersions are supplied via a 20A DP switch, not an FCU.

If they have a dedicated 16A radial circuit, an FCU is not required.

As is the case with my immersion. Supply from cu goes to immersion switch (with neon) on landing and from there cable goes to 20 amp flexible cord outlet in airing cupboard-immersion/airing cupboard is in an occupied bedroom so fitting the immersion switch right next to immersion (although aware it should be) was not practicable when originally installed.

I intend to fit the timeswitch in place of cord outlet and just leaving the actual immersion switch on the landing permanently on. Would this be ok?

PS if so would the neon indicator light consume a lot of power?

Many thanks
